Группа студентов американского вуза приезжает в горную алтайскую деревушку навестить родственников своей бывшей одногруппницы Карины — девушки, родом из этих мест, убитой в Америке при загадочных обстоятельствах. Брат Карины оказывается местным шаманом. После радушного приёма он предлагает друзьям принять участие в ритуале примирения, чтобы символически выпустить дух Карины на небеса.
Но что-то идёт не так, и вместо доброго духа Карины друзья высвобождают злой дух — Курюм. Он начинает вселяться то в одного, то в другого героя, заставляя их безжалостно убивать друг друга. Причина этому могла быть только одна — убийца Карины присутствовал на церемонии. Чтобы выжить, друзья должны вычислить, кто из них виновен в смерти девушки.
